slow start..

We had a slow start to the opening of The Hive. Unfortunately it rained and was bitter cold all weekend. A complete wash out. I had high hopes for my first show. Even though I didn't make many sales, I had a lot of great feedback and met a lot of awesome vendors.

Everyone commented on our packaging and antiques used in our set up.

I absolutely love my twirly rack we found. It holds almost 240 bars of soap! I thought it was really funny because the top of the stand has a metal sign that says something about triple tested flower seeds. People actually kept reading it, then looking at the soap, then looking back at the sign and were seriously confused. It actually concerned me that people didn't use their common sense that ALL my displays were all antique pieces and that I wasn't actually selling flower seeds! I mean I was using RC Cola boxes and no one asked where the soda was! Concerning!

I didn't get a picture of the board in my set up. We forgot the board Saturday morning and the mister had to come back to the show following him going to the Farmer's Market and we wrote it up and put it up. I need to work on it to get it exactly how we want it. But it was good for the remainder of the weekend.

The mister also surprised me with an amazing new piece for my next time I set up at a show. It's a vintage casket stand! It is so awesome. It looks similar to this, except way better!

It's only the stand, we need to get something for the top. The one he got me is a lot more detailed and amazing. I will have to get some pictures of it to share with you all.

I was planning on launching the Etsy shop today, but I am still recovering from the weekend, still need to unpack everything and take pictures of the lip balms so I think I will launch on Friday or Saturday instead. It will give me the week to finally relax and have a few nights to myself and not push like I have been for what seems like weeks and weeks on end. I want to apologize because I have completely been off the internet for over a week and a half and just won't get to all my regular blogs. Again if I missed anything please let me know and I'll be sure to go back and look stuff up!!

I hope everyone has had a great week and a half..I'll be back in full swing later this week!

Sorry to hear about the crummy weather. I adore your set up, though. That's always been a challenge of mine during craft shows. I suck at making things look good. It seems you don't have that issue.

I can't wait for your shop to open up so I can get my fill. :)

Enjoy a few nights rest. xx

Thanks I love playing around with set ups and design =)

And I special something, something is coming your way. I'm going to be mailing it tomorrow after work ;)
I am so sorry you were disappointed, but with the bad weather, it was unlikely there would be a big turnout. It will take time, so don't get discouraged. It all looked lovely, and I can't wait to see what you do with your casket stand, how sweet of the mister to get that for you. I gotta admit, you are the only person I have ever known that received a casket stand as a gift!!! How cool is that?

Ah, no it's ok. I wasn't disappointed. I mean granted I would have loved to have sold out of everything! But I knew even had it been perfect weather that would not have happened. My target audience wasn't really there this weekend, I know I will do much better at Farmer's Markets and Health Food stores, because those are the people that are going to want to take care of themselves and really look at whats going in and on their bodies!

hahah Yeah gotta love that mister! But seriously it is sooooo cool and will make an amazing table!!
That stinks about the weather, but at least you met some neat people and got feedback! In my craft show experience - people ask (what I think are) the dumbest questions about my set up. If there is any bit of murkiness out there - they'll ask it. I'm slowly learning how to avoid those situations but I still get people trying to buy the tins I set my mirrors up on. All part of the fun I guess!

Yup, that was definitely a perk!

And people do ask and say some of the dumbest things! I used to get upset and take some things personally. Now I just shake my head and when they walk away do the "wow" look hahah
Your set up looks fantastic! I agree with you *and others here) about the funny questions..... people always want to buy my props when I think it's so obvious I'm selling artwork! Oh well, all part of the fun of the market! Looking forward to checking out your Etsy store! x
Thanks Jen- I think half the fun of doing the shows are the interesting comments. I could do without the negative, grumpy ones though!
I had a craft fest this weekend that was pretty cool. There was a lady selling her soap bars for a dollar each, so she definitely sold out, and I bought 4 of them :)

Oh I hope you did well at your show!!

As for the lady selling soap for $1 that is insane! It costs more in materials alone for one bar of soap that I make! But I guess thats one method of selling?! haha
