Mid week update..

I have been having such a nice vacation. Every morning I'm out in the gardens..then making soap..then crocheting. What a life, if only it was like this every week. Maybe some day. Good music makes it all the better too.

Here is a small teaser of my daily life as of late.

Nothing is better than the morning sun in the gardens..

Purple balloon flowers.

SOAP!!

I have seven flavors made so far (2 are still in the molds until tomorrow morning)

Lemon Poppy seed, Lavender, Lemongrass & Pink Grapefruit w/ Calendula flowers, Creamsicle, and French Green Clay.

They are coming together..today I made Bentonite and Australian Blue Wash Clay. Can't wait to see how those turn out. I promise a post with all the details and everything very very soon. I never like to show things before they are perfect!

Then I've decided to also offer some handmade, crocheted washcloth / scrubbies to the new shop too. Here is a sneak peak..

Ok, I'm off to crochet for a while. I hope everyone is having a nice week. I'm not trying to rub it in, but my week has been so relaxing and definitely what I needed after so much stress at my job...

Lemon poppyseed will be the first one in my cart once the shop is up and running.... that and the grapefruit one. Yum!

I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself. :)
I'm bummed because the smell from the poppy seed one has really faded, so it's back to the "drawing board" of how much essential oil i need to put in the batch to make it last through the process. the lemongrass / grapefruit one smells awesome tho!
Looks like the "baby" is having a relaxing week, too!! It all sounds so lovely. Years ago, I owned a small gift shop, and one of the things I sold was my own homemade soap. It is a real trial-and-error process to figure out how much essential oil to use! Btw, one of my biggest sellers was my "oatmeal cookie soap"---made with oatmeal and cinnamon, it smelled like heaven!! I used goat milk in many of my soaps. It was so much fun trying new things, and the results were amazing.

That would be "baby" Lola. It's funny I actually still call her baby or "babe" all the time and she's now over 10. She is a true doll.

That is so awesome that you used to make soap, I'd love any advice you can offer me as I'm just starting out and learning as I go. I'm going to write up a whole post about everything Im going to be doing with flavors and all that very very soon.

But one of them that I will be making up is Cinnamon Oatmeal Walnut, so it's really funny that you said you used to make a cinnamon oatmeal soap! I hope it turns out to be a good seller of mine. I'm pretty sure it will end up making a black colored soap tho. I'm not going to use ground cinnamon, but rather cinnamon leaf essential oil - then steel ground oatmeal and black hull walnut shell powder. It's actually on my list to make today. I've been making two each day this week. (as I only currently have two 3lbs loafs) I had made some little trial soaps and one of them used organic ground cinnamon. The smell of the ground cinnamon totally took over the essential oils I put in but they smelled and looked awesome.

Did you make any with lemon essential oils or sweet orange? I seem to be having a hard time with how much oil to put in to have the smell stay past the process, I'm thinking citrus oils may be tough to have the scent last? The creamsicle one I made smelled SO awesome. Even when I took it out of the mold, then yesterday the smell was almost gone. That one I was mixing benzoin, sweet orange and tangerine - seriously it smelled exactly like creamsicle with the ratio I came up with..but now it hardly smells. I even the soap makers that all their soaps are unscented! haha. I'll actually be having quite a few as I've decided to not scent any of the clay soaps I'll be making.

I will not be using goats milk but heard it makes for an excellent soap. Next year I plan on being at my local farmers market and there are two soap shops there already - both selling goats milk soap. I want to make sure I stay different than the other sellers. I already know I will be due to how I will be packaging my soaps and just the logo/label alone. My husband and I are really into design and packaging - so you can bet that area will be good! hah

Thanks again, and seriously- if you have any advice of tips on scents etc I would really appreciate any help - email me at veranellies at gmail dot com I'll send you a list of what flavors I have planned =)
